Vision:Toledo has announced the beginning of a Holiday Lighting Contest open to area residents, with entries available now through Dec. 15 and prizes set aside for the winners.
Discussed during the Nov. 25 meeting of Vision:Toledo's Arts, Recreation and Events Committee, the contest is intended to enliven the holiday experience of local residents and is open to all living within Toledo as well as these areas:
North of Toledo to Tucker Rd. - Schoolhouse Ln. - Spencer Rd.
South of Toledo to the Cowlitz County Line
East of Toledo to Collins/Eadon Rd. loop & Kangas/Salmon Creek Rd. loop.
West of Toledo to I-5.
On Dec. 15, area residents will be allowed to tour and vote for their favorite displays between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. A hay wagon will be showing displays in town while a school bus will take residents to entries outside the city limits, both of which depart from Toledo High School. A community gathering will then take place at 7 p.m. at high school, with cookies, coffee and music, and the announcement of the winners.
Prizes donated by local businesses will be available, and those who wish to participate can submit their entry form to City Hall no later than 3 p.m. Dec. 15. Forms are available from multiple local businesses, as well as at www.visiontoledo.org. Participants outside the city limits are asked to build their displays within visible distance of an established school bus route.
