Willapa Valley's girls won the five-team North Beach Invite by scoring 166 points to defeat the lady Hyaks of North Beach (132) last Thursday at Oyehut. Ocosta was third at 118, followed by Mary M. Knight (30) and North River (16).
“It was great weather for track,” Valley head coach Dave Ege told the Herald. “I think we are looking good heading into the last week of the regular season.”
Coach Ege reported that lady Viking winners included Lauren Friese, pole vault (9 feet, 6 inches), Jessica Cook, 800 meters (2:41.2), Kate Rockett, javelin (104 feet, 4 inches), and Shania Barton, high jump (4 feet, 10 inches).
The Vikings had two individual winners with Matt Konigsberger winning the 400 meters with a PR time of :52.5, and Trevor Cook winning the pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches.
North Beach won the boys' meet with 188 points, followed by Ocosta (142), Willapa Valley (95), Taholah (220 and North River (18).
Valley competed at Ilwaco Tuesday and heads to Raymond for a competition Thursday.
