Vader will be hosting a public workshop this Friday to help residents understand the many challenges facing the city’s sewer services.
Taking place between 1 pm and 3 pm in City Hall, the workshop will feature Department of Commerce official Cathi Read, who has been working with Vader as part of a state outreach program to help develop small rural communities.
Read said the workshop will focus on Vader’s need for an upgrade to their sewer plant, as well as the city’s leaking sewer system and different options available for repairs.
Until recently, Vader had been looking toward startup company Blue Array to provide low-cost sewer services, but Blue Array defaulted on their debt to former financial backer JH Kelley at the beginning of the year, and Vader Mayor Ken Smith confirmed during Thursday’s City Council meeting that Blue Array has officially been dissolved.
Alternatives to Blue Array are expected to be discussed during the workshop, as well as how the state plans to play a role in funding and approving such alternatives.
