May Day is arriving this weekend and all indications say the weather should be clear. With highs reaching into the 80s later this week, we hope it gets to stay that way, come Saturday. It is still not too late to add yourself as a vendor or parade entrant, so call organizer Janet Chalrton at (360) 295-3011 for more info. Also, remember donations of cakes for the cakewalk should be dropped off between 10 a.m. and noon Friday at Andy Wilson’s house for inclusion in the festival.
Park Board Chair Steve Krohn was pleased to announce the concrete for a new basketball court in Werden Park was poured Monday, thanks to the efforts of many donors and volunteers. Several other improvements have been planned for the city, so be sure to thank a member of the Park Board the next time you see them.
The Vader Assembly of God will be holding their monthly food giveaway Wednesday outside the post office. Part of their ongoing ministries, free food, including bread, snacks and produce, will be given out to the community, with no requirements for household or income information. To learn more about such programs, call the church at (360) 295-3756.
Hanging flower baskets are still on sale to support the Park Board. The cost is $25 and you get to pick which kind of flowers go in your basket. To pre-order yours before Saturday, call Lois Wilson at (360) 295-3002 or Doug Clevenger at (360) 304-2412.
A workshop to discuss Brandon Milton’s proposed recreational marijuana production facility has been scheduled for May 8 at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall and the public is welcome to attend. While Vader has temporarily banned all kinds of marijuana facilities, Milton has still been pursuing his producer’s license from the state and is hoping to update officials on the latest developments. Time is expected to be set aside for public input on the matter and those who believe they may be unable to attend, or may not be able to speak within the allotted time limits, are encouraged to send written correspondence to City Hall, which will then be given to council members.
Vader’s ordinances, past and present, are being published online, and can be accessed for free at www.vaderwa.org. Other city business, including meeting minutes, council packets and agendas, are available, as well.
