May Day is almost here, and there is still time to become involved as a vendor, volunteer or parade entrant. For those who missed the news, this year’s theme is "A Blooming Good Time in Vader," and organizer Janet Charlton is leading the way to help make sure this year’s festival goes off without a hitch. Currently needed for the festival are donations of cakes for the cake walk, as well as individuals to help with setup and takedown of the carnival games and other activities. It has been announced Andy Wilson will be this year’s grand marshal, while Steve Krohn and Wanda Smith will be May Day kind and queen (an admitted change from tradition but not unheard of in years past). For a complete listing of May Day schedules and events, look in the next issue of Town Crier. For more info, call Charlton at (360) 295-3011.
Hanging flower baskets are still on sale to support the Park Board. The cost is $25 and you get to pick which kind of flowers go in your basket. To pre-order yours before May 3, call Lois Wilson at (360) 295-3002 or Doug Clevenger at (360) 304-2412.
City Hall has announced they plan to host limb disposal days layer this year for residents to get rid of unwanted tree limbs at no cost. Scheduled for June 7, Sept. 6 and Dec. 6, such events are being held because residents are not allowed to start burn piles in the city limits, though it has been advised other yard debris, such as leaves and logs, and general refuse will not be accepted. For more information, call (360) 295-3222.
The Vader Assembly of God will be holding their monthly food giveaway April 30 outside the post office. Part of their ongoing ministries, free food, including bread, snacks and produce, will be given out to the community, with no requirements for household or income information. To learn more about such programs, call the church at (360) 295-3756.
