A two-vehicle accident involving four passengers delayed traffic for about two hours Monday afternoon on U.S. Route 6 at milepost 8, eight miles east of Raymond. All four passengers were injured and transferred to Willapa Harbor Hospital. None of the injuries were life threatening. Both vehicles were totaled.
State Trooper Steve Eastham arrived on the scene along with the Pacific County Sheriff's Office.
Involved in the accident were Terry Dale Lewis (driver), 62, of Raymond; Peter Wolfgang Watkins (driver), 67, Port Angeles; Leonel Ruelas Jr. (passenger), 15, Raymond; and Christine Kay Watkins (passenger), 65, Port Angeles.
At approximately 3:30 pm, Lewis was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango westbound when it left the roadway to the gravel shoulder, when he over-corrected, slid, causing the vehicle to rotate sideways across both lanes and then striking the 2011 Ford Fusion driven by Peter Watkins, which was traveling eastbound. Lewis' car rolled, coming to rest on its wheels. Watkins' car rolled into the ditch.
According to Trooper Eastham, charges are pending. The cause of the accident was wheels off the roadway. Eastham said, “No alcohol or drugs were involved.”
