Two Grays Harbor Juvenile Detention administrators have been discovered to have placed a 16-year-old in isolated confinement for a week in March. Detention Director Gerald Murphy has been suspended without pay for 30 days and the juvenile facility's director, Greg Reynvaan will be suspended for a week without pay once Murphy returns from his suspension.
The juvenile that was put in isolated confinement was kept there for seven nights and eight days. During the eight days the juvenile was only permitted to leave his cell to shower and for one hour of recreation. The juvenile was put there after allegedly being defiant and disruptive. The use of confinement in this case was not warranted.
