Traditional Powwow at WVHS

Jones, as we introduced in the December 3, 2014, "Senior Project brings people together," article in the Willapa Harbor Herald, will bring a traditional Pow wow to the local area to share the culture of Native Americans.

The public is invited to this free event as well as any dancers and drummers. Along with the Grand Entries scheduled at 1 and 7 pm, the day will be filled with plenty of Native American Arts and Crafts and cultural events to share with the residents of the community.

A Facebook page (Kerstin's 2015 Senior Project Powwow has been set up to keep people posted of the latest developments for the event.

Among the many vendors on tap for the Powwow, an exhibition of dancing will be highlighted.

Special performances include Flutist Lisa Gilati; Rony Chee and Rachael Chee performing dances from the Navajo, Hopi, Shoshone and Blackfoot cultures. There will also be featured Men's Golden Age Traditional Fancy and Women's Golden Age Traditional Fancy Shawl dances. There will also be a special Tiny Tots dance.

Vendors will be open for the entirety of the event even as the dancers and performers take their dinner beak at 5 pm. The concession stand will feature cookies, nachos, chili, Indian Tacos and Fry Bread, and water and coffee will also be available.

The Master of Ceremonies Mike Lee will be working with Arena Director Robert Longcrane to bring you Head Man and Woman Dancers Kevin and Jennifer King, along with Host Drum Fir Tree Road.

Come and enjoy the day filled with Native American culture, food fun and prizes.
