At 6:00 on Monday the 21st, the Toledo city council meeting commenced. Councilman Guy Spratt motioned to accept the agenda and Carol Hill seconded it.
The council moved to the department reports starting with public works. Craig McCown spoke positively of the water system and said the treatment plant is running fine. After his remarks, Police Chief John Brockmueller spoke about the police business. He said in Toledo there were 41 calls to service with 12 being repeat calls for one person. Other than the higher numbers over the last two weeks, he said the department has been running smoothly and noted the good work by his officers.
City Clerk Michelle Whitten stated the Vision Toledo town meeting went well. Jamie Herrera Butler's office was there along with Maria Cantwell's office. In a questionnaire taken which was answered by the townspeople, the state of the town seems to be optimistic. On a scale of Low, Moderate, Just Right, and High, the townspeople on average said the optimism for Toledo's future is high and the pessimism is low. The quality of life in the town was rated high, the satisfaction with the city government is high, and the amount of crime and drug abuse was rated low. One negative was noted though, being "Things for Kids to do." City Clerk Whitten said this is one of the aspects the town will be improving on in the future.
After having no public comments on the agenda items, the city council went to the next item which was approval of liquor license renewals for the IGA Market and Chimis Mexican Restaurant.
Councilwoman Hill motioned to accept liquor license renewals for the IGA Market as well as Chimis Mexican Restaurant. Councilman Greg Morosoff seconded the motion and after no discussion, the council approved both renewals.
The council then went on to discuss the appointment of Mike Thomas to the Planning Commission. After Mayor Dobosh stated this position had been seen advertised in the paper as well as online and no other citizen had asked about the position, the council moved to approving Thomas to the position.
Councilwoman Hill motioned to accept Mike Thomas into the vacant Planning Commission seat which was seconded by Glenda Forga. The council then voted him in unanimously. The meeting was adjourned approximately 6:45.
