The Toledo boys picked up a big victory this week in Trico League play and cemented their position in the WIAA State 1A rankings with a victory over Kalama on their home floor Friday night.

What a victory it was! Much like their previous meeting in which Kalama dusted the Indians 56-41 on Dec. 21, the Chinooks led throughout the game but this time their shooting went cold and Toledo crawled back in.

With just seven seconds to go, Kalama missed a critical free throw while nursing a 50-49 lead. Toledo's Austin Trafelet secured the rebound and began to consider his choices.

“It felt like it took a while but probably around four seconds," described Trafelet. "I looked to kick it up to Brennan (Rakoz) but he was covered and I could barely see Brent (Wood) standing all alone in the corner, so I just kicked it to him."

Sophomore shooting sensation Brent Wood took the ball and launched a shot just prior to the buzzer and sealed a victory for the Indians. Wood hit just one other three on the night, but his six points meant everything to the once defeated Tribe.

Rakoz led Toledo with 26 points while Trafelet, saddled with early foul trouble, managed only nine points but clearly the game's biggest assist.

On Tuesday, the Indians held court at home with Ilwaco and played much of their bench throughout Trico League contest in which Toledo overpowered the Fisherman 68-36. Rakoz led Toledo with 19 points while Trafelet added 13. A total of nine different players scored for the Indians. Lakota Rakoz grabbed seven of the Indians 37 rebounds.

Toledo is now 17-1 on the season and 15-1 in the Trico League. They travel to Stevenson on Tuesday night and then host Castle Rock as they prepare to say goodbye to Seniors Brennan Rakoz, Trafelet, Wood, Skyler Muyskens, Lakota Rakoz, Joe Durham and Mikhail Hopf.

Toledo scoring vs Ilwaco – Brennan Rakoz 19, Austin Trafelet 13, Grant McEwen 7, Forrest Wallace 2, Blake Wood 7, Skyler Muyskens 4, Riley Bowen 4, Mikhail Hopf 6, Joe Durham 6.

Toledo scoring vs Kalama – Brent Wood 6, Brennan Rakoz 24, Austin Trafelet 9, Lakota Rakoz 6, Joe Durham 6, Grant McEwen 3.
