"I wanted a way to give back to the sports community where I grew up," said Phansisay. "Talking with coaches and the Raymond athletic director, I decided to bring back the 3 on 3 basketball tournament. We will have several division from 6th grade to adult, both a girls and boys bracket," said Phansisay.
Working with the student, Raymond Head Boys Basketball Coach Derek Rask notes that it has not all been an easy task. "For Alan, he is in charge that we have a good set of rules for each division. He also has to make sure that the facilities are scheduled and that each player gets a waiver signed. Also on his list, is the creation of the brackets to run the tournament and to identify any other assistance he may need in running a tournament of this nature. The biggest thing that students like Alan realize when working on Senior Projects is that there are real deadlines and that they have to keep track and make the deadlines to ensure the project goes as planned."
First kicking around the idea of a 3-on-3 tournament during the past basketball season, the thought was this could be a way to help raise money for the Raymond boys basketball team and involve the community more than just having them watch the boys and girls teams play.
The tournament, open to the public, will feature several age brackets from sixth grade to adult and encourages boys, girls, men and women to get involved. The tournament is scheduled for two days April 17 and 18 at the Raymond High School with deadline to participate this April 10.
"The hope is that this tournament will turn into an annual event. Something that the community can get involved in now and for the future," said Phansisay.
"If people wish to get a team together they can contact myself or coach Rask for registration forms," said Phansisay.
