The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the quake at a magnitude of 1.4.
The earthquake rupture was initiated at the coordinates of 46.271, -122.556 near Mt. Saint Helens, which is 20.7 miles from Longview, 23.9 miles from Morton, and 36.3 miles from Centralia. Small tremors were felt across Grays Harbor.
Lionel Carter, a Hoquiam resident, could still feel the aftershocks an hour after the quake. “The house is moving still,” Carter exclaimed. “There are aftershocks that are still going on. I’ve been sitting here for the last 15 minutes feeling them. . . You’re sitting here and the next thing you know my recliner just started moving side to side. I went outside to see if it was a truck or something coming by - sometimes it’s a logging truck driving by. . . I went outside to look, I come back in and I was like: ‘That was an earthquake’.”
No damage was immediately reported from the quake.
