A Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Deputy was assaulted while arresting a 49 year old Elma man earlier this week. Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate has said that just before 8:30 am on Wednesday morning, Deputy Jeremy Holmes was investigating an assault complaint at the mobile home park located at 15 Murray Place of Elma.
Holmes was advised that a 49 year old Elma man living with one of the residents attempted to break into a neighbour's trailer. The man got into a fight with the couple living there before fleeing the location.
Deputy Holmes located the man nearby and attempted to take him into custody on 1st degree burglary charges, but the man attacked Holmes. Shumate said it was evident that the man was under the influence of narcotics. A taser didn't seem to have any effect on the man, but the deputy was enentually able to physically subdue the man and take him into custody after receiving minor scrapes and scratches. The Elma man received contusions to his face and was transported to Summit Pacific Hospital in Elma for treatment.
The Elma man was transported to the Grays Harbor County Jail where he was booked for Burglary 1st Degree, Assault 3rd degree, resisting arrest, and on a $10,000 warrant for failt to appear on a Driving Under the Influence charge from Thurston County.
