The Raymond-South Bend combine teams now have a mascot in Rowdy the Raven. Raven Head Football Coach Luke Abbott told the Herald, "It was a donation to the schools. We just wanted the combine program to have a mascot that could be at games.'
MENLO - The Pacific County Fire District 3 responded to a brush fire at 31 Smith Creek Road last Wednesday at 11:22 am, according to Pacific County Fire District 3 Fire Chief Gary Schwiesow.
"Upon arrival, units found a field and brush on fire," Schwiesow told the Herald. "Firefighters were able to knock the fire down and keep it from spreading. The fire burned about one acre of land and there were no structures threatened at the time of the fire."
The 4th of July weekend was a busy time period. Nearly every town has some type of activity going on. In our region, Tokeland had a parade and an old-fashioned picnic with games afterwards.
The parade entries were honored with prizes for the best floats awarded by the parade judges.

SOUTH BEND - First-year Raymond-South Bend Head Fastpitch Softball Coach Dakota Brooks was voted Pacific League Coach of the Year by her peers recently. Brooks guided the Ravens to a winning record, a fourth-place finish in the Pacific 2B League and a trip to the state tournament.
South Bend High School's annual induction ceremony for the National Honor Society (NHS) was held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. A total of eight students were inducted into the school's chapter.

Pacific County Economic Development Council (PCEDC) is pleased to announce recognition for outstanding achievement of local businesses and individuals. SOUTH BEND - South Bend School District has added another asset to its teaching staff with the addition of Tim Bale as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher for the 2023-24 school year. Bale was hired by the South Bend School Board of Directors at the regular meeting last Thursday.
Bale comes to South Bend with extensive experience in a variety of industries and will join CTE teachers Aaron Blevins and Joel Bale, both teaching for South Bend.
Willapa Valley HS ninth grader Rilyn Channell earned an Athlete of the Week Award by the WIAA for Week 34, during the period from April 30 through May 6.

"Rilyn Channell of Pe Ell-Willapa Valley, helped the Titans sweep a twinbill from Raymond-South Bend for a share of the Pacific League championship May 2 with the winning hit, a 2-run double. On May 1 versus North Beach, Channell ripped 3 hits, including a home run and triple and drove in 4 runs. Channell, a ninth grader at Willapa Valley HS, is an Honor Roll student."
