It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go! There are some beautiful light displays at various homes and the community buildings are all decked out with lights, wreaths and garlands. Fortunately, last week's high winds weren't too bad here and didn't blow too many things away.
Many Elves will be busy this week with the Cheer Bag project. Gifts will be wrapped and the 25 bags filled on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Community Hall. Then on Saturday, Carolers will gather at Community Hall at 3 p.m. for warm beverages before the hayride to spread good cheer. The hayride will end in time to enjoy a nice warm meal at the Town Potluck at 5 p.m.
The weekend includes Friday's dinner at the Café: Hearty Beef Stew served in bread bowls. Beverage, salad and dessert are always included for $9. Call Linda at (360) 295-0875 by Wednesday to make reservations.
An Ice Cream Social/Card Bingo will be on Sunday starting at 6 in Community Hall. The proceeds of the Social contributed to the town's holiday greenery and decorations. Card Bingo is a fun and silly game that requires absolutely no skill and you can't lose more than $2.60. That's 4 nickels, 4 dimes, 4 quarters and a dollar.
The "White Christmas" Christmas Party is on Monday at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium. Enjoy burgers and soup at the Café then come across the street to enjoy gourmet desserts, viewing "White Christmas" on the new wide-screen TV, movie trivia games, gifts, prizes and more. Watch the movie ahead of time to increase chances of winning trivia questions.
Tuesday's Senior Nutrition lunch on Dec. 23 will be Shepherd's Pie with Oregon Beans and Sliced Melon. The meals are a real bargain at $3. Call me at (360) 355-7315 by 6 p.m. on Monday to make or break reservations.
A lovely Candlelight Service will be held at Ryderwood's historic Community Church on Christmas Eve (Wednesday, Dec. 24) at 7 p.m. The sanctuary is beautifully decorated and there will be refreshments following the service. All are welcome!
The Christmas Day Community Potluck starts at 1 p.m. on Dec. 25. All are invited. Please fill out the sign up sheet in Community Hall so the Social Club can plan accordingly. The Social Club provides meats, potatoes and beverages. Diners should bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. Bring your own table service for a "finer dining experience".
Until next week, when the days will start getting longer again...
