As this dry spell continues, please use extreme caution with anything that has to do with fire. That means everything from the slightest flicker to cigarette butts for open flames. Everything is tinder dry. There is a Burn Ban in effect which means there are certain restrictions on outdoor burning. Common sense should tell us that this is not a good time to burn a pile of brush, and it’s also against the law. If you have any doubts, check the rules on the Internet.
The start of a new month means one thing for certain: it’s time for Ryderwood’s special monthly Town Breakfast this Saturday. The VFW guys put on a complete spread that includes everything from pancakes, ham, eggs how you like ‘em, biscuits and sausage gravy, orange juice and bottomless coffee. This is a major fund-raising event for the VFW who contributes so much to the community.
There is an Ice Cream Social and Card Bingo this Sunday evening at Community Hall. Ice Cream is served at 6 p.m. and Card Bingo starts about 6:30. Bring your nickels, dimes, and quarters (4 each) plus a dollar for a total of $2.60 and see how much you can trade with your neighbors.
This is one of those months when the Women’s Club meeting and the Red Hats gathering don’t fall in the same week. The Red Hats will gather on Thursday the 8th (2 p.m.) while the Women’s Club will meet following Wednesday (the 14th) at noon – both groups meet in Pioneer Hall.
This Friday’s dinner at the Café will be Russ’ BBQ Pork Ribs with all the fixin’s. The recent addition of the new (!) stove plus putting the big freezer back into service are indications of the success of this volunteer-run operation.
Until next week…
