Museum Director Pete Darrah is inviting the public to bring their family and friends to come on in and see three new exhibits, take a chance to win a unique Norwegian hardanger (an intricate form of embroidery) table runner that was donated by fabric artist Virginia Wallace, and also listen to some live music.
The FVVansee wheelhouse is a century-old halibut schooner. The exhibit is a salute to the ship and its captain, Pete Odegaard, and the history of the ship and its crew.
There will be plenty of awesome artifacts on display, including a document signed by President James Madison, our countries fourth president, and flintlock pistols, dirks, daggers, coins, boarding swords, a huge spy glass, an actual 1812 Navy sailor’s jacket, and a model of a 32-pound cannon. Also on display will be artwork from 1812 warships and sea battles. Then check out the expanded U.S. Army Coast Artillery exhibit, which includes more than 60 artifacts. There’s treasure from the 1622 Spanish ship Atocha. And, of course there are 28 other main exhibits always on display, including items on wars stretching through the Spanish American War to World War II, and much, much more!
The museum is located at 310 Alder St. in historic downtown Raymond and is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. For a group tour call 942-4149 or 942-2855.
