There is a new routine in 4-H homes throughout Pacific County. The challenges of not being able to meet face to face are being conquered. They are keeping families safe and connected.

Clubs are meeting online to share project knowledge and make plans. The Blue Ribbon Bandits and Guy's Homegrown Helpers both participated in a community service project by making signs of encouragement for residents of the Willapa Care Center. Sending virtual cards to essential workers and donating 4-H made masks are keeping members busy.

You will be seeing 4-H member's completed projects this August, not at the fair, but in your community. Expressive arts will be virtually judged and then displayed in local businesses. Blue ribbon entries will go on to be virtually entered in the 4-H state fair. If you are a business with a little space for a 4-H fair display, please contact WSU Extension staff (360) 875-9331 or (360) 642-9331 to make arrangements.

Most of the 4-H livestock project members had their project animals for three to ten months before the face-to-face meetings stopped. The members have experience marketing with social media so embracing a virtual auction was not as challenging for them as it has been for the committee. Look for the Pacific County 4-H/FFA Market Livestock Auction online this year from August 28 at 6:00 p.m. through August 29 at 6:00 p.m. You can go to www.juniorfairauctions.com to preview animals, register to bid, or donate.

It is a different time showcasing their projects on the video screen, but these virtual shows and meetings have filled a void and taught their families a new set of skills and adaptability, building their resilience. Inspiring kids to do is the 4-H way.
