Nominations are open through September 6 for the Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times “I Love My Librarian Award.” The award encourages library users to recognize the accomplishments of librarians in public and school libraries for their efforts to improve the lives of people in their communities.
Nominations are accepted only online at http://www.ilovelibraries.org/lovemylibrarian/home.
Up to 10 librarians will be selected. Each will receive a $5,000 cash award, a plaque and a travel stipend to attend the awards ceremony and reception in New York, hosted by The NY Times.
Each nominee must be a librarian with a master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) in library and information studies, or a master's degree with a specialty in school library media from an educational unit accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Nominees must be currently working in the United States in a public library, a library at an accredited two- or four-year college or university or at an accredited K-12 school.
In the award’s first five years, library supporters nationwide sent in more than 11,000 nominations for their librarians. A total of 50 librarians won the award. Winners have been lauded for achievements and qualities such as vision and expert leadership, making a library accessible to new population, empowering meaningful achievement for students, and building an environment that is welcoming to all.
The award is a collaborative program of Carnegie Corporation of New York, The New York Times and the ALA.
