The City of Aberdeen received a call from an Aberdeen resident who wanted to report a suspicious call as follows:
I just took a phone call from Ms. Andrea Moeun, an Aberdeen resident.
She called to ask if we have a "summoning department". Someone who identified themselves as Nathan Daniels called her and said that he was with the Summoning Department for the City of Aberdeen and that because Ms. Moeun had failed to respond to a Summons by mail someone would be at her house within the hour. He said she could stop that from happening if she called the number he was going to give her. He started to give the number as 888 and she said to him that Aberdeen does not have any 888 numbers and he hung up on her. I asked if she had caller ID and she said that the number came through as a blocked number. I then explained that our numbers do come through as blocked numbers so if a City employee were trying to call her it would likely come through as a blocked number, but that we do not have a "summoning department" and that she does not appear to have any warrants that I can locate in JIS.
I told Eric and he asked me to forward the information to the police department, but wasn't sure who it should go to. Please let me know if this needs to be sent to someone else.
Please advise your readers and listeners that we do not conduct business this way and they should contact their local jurisdiction if they have a
suspicious call like this.
