"We will probably have 4 player teams mixed men and women," said Kenneth S. Kim, the new general manager of the course.
On the job for the past three months, the most important thing that Kim wishes to advise people is that the course is not closed.
"I have received many phone calls asking if the course is closed. We have never been closed and will not close," Kim assured.
Kim has been busy getting the course ready for the summer season. With the arrival of spring, Kim has new equipment to keep the fairways and greens in shape.
"My mission is to make Willapa Harbor the best 9-hole course in Pacific County," he said.
Kim is a PGA Professional and new to the area having taught both professional and college athletes. "I am taking another step in my career path. I now am running the course as opposed to only teaching."
Becoming the general manager was the next logical step for Kim as he had been in both South Korea and Los Angeles, while teaching golf prior to arriving in Raymond.
"I train not only in the techniques of the game but also body shape and mental toughness," Kim said.
Along with his job of running the Golf Club, Kim is also providing his talents as a volunteer golf assistant for the Willapa Harbor Tri-District High School Golfers representing student-athletes from all three area schools.
Kim has already visited other golf courses in Pacific and Grays Harbor counties and has made his presence known to the golfing community. Kim has also decided not to raise the prices for memberships and will keep the current unlimited visits for club members for the annual price of $950.
"I believe that we have competitive prices on what I have seen in the area," he said.
The Willapa Harbor Golf Course is a scenic 9-hole course with a tress that offers a different look for each hole. The course features 3,004 yards of golf from the longest tees and is a par 36. The course rating is 39.6 with a slope rating of 112. The course was designed by Walter Fovargue in 1926 and has room for recreational vehicles for any golfers, travelers or avid sportsmen.
Willapa Harbor Golf Course will be holding a 1 pm shotgun start tournament March 28. The $40 entry fee includes green fees and there will be a potluck with barbeque immediately following the end of the tournament.
"People can stop by the Pro Shop and enter the tournament," Kim added.
The Willapa Harbor Golf Course is located at 2424 Fowler Road in Raymond and can be called at 942-2392.
