May 3. The competition was divided into two sessions, the first of which tested the students on applied mathematics and modeling how math is done in real-life situations. The second session tested on subjects such as number sense, measurement, geometric sense, and probability and statistics.

All three divisions of the team won awards for their math excellence. The 7th grade team earned an “Excellent” ribbon for their work in the first session with the highest score out of all the other 7th grade math teams. The 8th grade B team also earned an “Excellent” ribbon for their work in the first session and the 8th grade A team earned an “Excellent” ribbon for their work on Algebraic Sense.

The students trained for three months leading up to the Math Olympiad before and after school to work on practice problems and cooperation skills. Team advisor Maegan Skoubo was very proud of the teams. “There is nothing more rewarding as a math teacher than to see students excited about math, working together to solve problems, and having fun at the same time. I am proud of their hard work and truly enjoyed spending time with them outside of the regular school day,” she said. “We would like to thank the Raymond Schools Foundation for the grant they gave the Jr High Math Team, which paid for the entry fees for each team, t-shirts for each participant, and pizza and drinks for lunch.”
