Local WDFW study under way

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office is alerting citizens to the possibility they may see private vehicles driving slowly up and down Lewis County roadways as part of a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Elk Hoof Disease study in Lewis County and throughout Southwest Washington.

The Sheriff's Office wants to be proactive in getting the word out about the study, in case residents become concerned about unusual or unknown vehicles driving slowly in rural areas.

Volunteers with WDFW have agreed to survey elk herds in Lewis County to reasonably proximate the proportion of elk affected by TAHD (Treponeme-associated hoof disease).

The volunteers will survey elk herds between March 1^st and April 30^th, 2015. Volunteers should have WDFW paperwork with them that identifies their involvement in the study.
