If you drive around Winlock, you will probably see Kenny Simpson out taking care of Winlock. From the day Kenny arrived here, he has been hard at work every day. He gets the town ready for Egg Day and also removes snow, he will get the job done.
Kenny was born and raised in Yelm, and in his teens he moved to Rainier where he graduated from Rainier High School. After high school, Kenny went to work in the family business laying floors and roofing. He also was raised on a 20-acre farm where he learned how to run equipment and work hard. After leaving the family business, he laid roofs for a friend. Kenny considered his first real job working for a company that produced riser sleeves. He worked for Scot Industries for a while as well.
Eventually, Kenny was hired by McChord Air Force Base. He was a maintenance technician where he took care of all the maintenance for houses on base. He became the lead, where he would run a crew of maintenance technicians. They would rehabilitate or totally remodel a house. Between his years working on a farm, working construction and rehabilitation homes, Kenny was the perfect candidate for our little community.
After speaking with Kenny, he stated, "I enjoy my job and it's a lot closer to home. I come to work every day, I have a family to support." As to what he likes about Winlock, "I appreciate Winlock, it's an awesome community and everyone I have met has been fantastic."
During the snowstorm recently, Kenny was definitely working for the citizens. He stated, "I was plowing and running the sander while Mayor Svenson was running the backhoe in downtown Winlock. I was out in Winlock until 8:00 p.m. running the backhoe. I came in on Saturday and removed more snow." Winlock was the city in the south end that had the cleanest streets during the snow. If you drove to the other cities in South Lewis County, their roads were not near as ready as ours. He knows what hard work is and he performed his job for the citizens to make sure they could get around.
Mayor Brandon Svenson stated, "Kenny has a fantastic attitude and work ethic. We are very fortunate to have him here in Winlock."
Kenny is responsible for maintaining the streets, mowing, sidewalks, street signs, public request for repairs, sinkholes, and of course sanding and plowing. Every time I have been out and about in Winlock, I have seen this young man working. He is attentive to the citizens' needs and does an incredible job at keeping our town looking good. He will be getting the town ready for Egg Day and it's always a great-looking city for the day. Thank you Kenny for your hard work, we appreciate you!
