Joyce M. (Jacoby) Elliott

Joyce M. (Jacoby) Elliott passed away on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at 86 years of age. She was born to Fred and Martha Jacoby in Toledo. She graduated from Toledo High School in 1945. She continued her education at Washington State University with a BA in Home Economics. She taught at Elma High School, Tenino School District, North Thurston School District, Olympia School District, and Tumwater School District as a teacher in Home Economics and other subjects.

She joined the 4-H programs at the age of nine in Lewis County, under the leadership of Mrs. Ferrier in the Merry Maids of Toledo. She continued working as a volunteer 4-H leader in Thurston County for over 50 years. She had worked as Main leader for three clubs Haggle Huff and Hurry Home, Jolly Co-Workers and Westside Workers and several other chairmanships in the Thurston 4-H Programs. She taught many 4-H programs to many 4-H members over the years. She was known as the "Flower Lady". Every spring she would ask for donations for her daffodils and Tulips to help the Thurston County 4-H programs.

In 1950, she married James A. Elliott; they were married for 64 years and lived in Thurston Co., as long. She is survived by four children: Dianna Fezer (Dale), Olympia; Dean Elliott (Cyd) San Pedro, Cali.; Donnette Fisher (Keith), New Enterprise, Penn.; and Daniel Elliott, Toledo; also two Grandchildren: Addison and Alex Elliott, of San Pedro, Cali.

The family would like to express thanks to Claire Bridge Home, of Olympia, and Providence Hospice for their care and love to Joyce.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either Thurston County 4-H at 5033 Harrison Ave NW, Olympia, WA 98502; or Washington 4-H Foundation at 26020 W. Pioneer Puyallup, WA 98371. In the memo line please indicate "In memory of Joyce Elliott".

A remembrance of Life will be held at McLane Grange on Delphi Rd at 1 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 6.
