Jesus is Always Our Bright Sun

That marine air can be surprisingly local. I had a meeting in Aberdeen recently, where the fog had enveloped the city for the better part of the day. Driving home, I discovered that the sun had been more successful in its efforts here in our towns and was shining brilliantly. But if you turned and looked north, you could see the marine air hanging in the distance. It never did clear in Grays Harbor that day.

Life can be like that. There are times when things go well, and life feels like a sunny day. Then suddenly, everything becomes dark and overcast as challenges surround us. In the midst of a crisis in our life, we look out from the fog that sits heavily over us while the people around us are smiling and enjoying life.

Meanwhile, we wonder if we will ever see the sun again. The people in the sun don’t appear to be aware that we are trapped in that dense fog, and there isn’t anything we can do - the darkness seems to follow us in every aspect of life.

The clouds and darkness of our lives don’t lessen the love of God. God never abandons us in the struggles of our life, even though we may not be able to see God’s presence due to the fog that surrounds us. God is always there, just as the sun remains in the sky day and night, on clear and gloomy days. It’s just not visible to our eyes.

And God cares deeply about each one of us - enough to send his Son, Jesus. Jesus Christ promises to be with us always, not just in the good times. He walks with us on the beautiful sunny days of our life and he’s there when we are surrounded by a heavy fog of troubles or sorrow. The fog eventually will fade away, and Christ stays ever at our side. He is our Bright Sun that will not be overcast.
