Madison Huber of Lebam became the Washington State Jr. Hereford Princess earlier this month. The Hereford Association is a foundation dedicated to offering educational support to youth who raise Hereford cattle.
Fifteen-year-old Huber has been involved in agriculture most of her life, investing time in the local 4-H club for the last eight years. She has been involved with the Washington State Jr. Hereford Association for the last six years.
“I have had horses, pigs, and rabbits. Right now I have one horse and seven Hereford cows,” Huber said.
Because of her dedication to agriculture and the raising of cattle, she was able to run as Jr. Hereford Princess.
“To get this award, I had to send in a cover page explaining why I want to be princess and what I am involved in besides the Jr. Hereford Association and had to answer question from a panel of judges at the Jr. Spring Show,” Huber explained.
“My responsibilities include promoting the Hereford breed, attending shows like our spring show and our Puyallup fall show and even the regional show in June, which is held in either Washington, Idaho, or Oregon,” Huber said. “I also hand out prizes at those shows.”
Huber hopes to continue with the association in the future. “Next year I will be old enough to run for Queen and will repeat the process, but hopefully with a higher title,” she said.
