SOUTH BEND - During its annual fund-raising event, Pacific County Guns and Hoses Committee handed out $4,000 to local school programs for needy children.
"We doubled what we were able to give to our local school programs and that's something we are very proud to be able to do in just our second year," said Pacific County Prosecutor and Committee member Mark McClain. "These funds go to support local school programs for underprivileged children. This effort wouldn't be possible without our sponsors: Colburn Timber, Pitchwood Alehouse, Raymond Furniture, Timber Country 106.1 FM, Bud's Lumber & Electric, McDonald Credit Service, Bank of the Pacific, Pioneer Grocery, Sandy's Guns and Ammo, and Snap Fitness. These community supporters and our fire and law enforcement heroes once again came out in support of our community allowing us to double the support we have been able to provide to our community."
"Our local police and firemen were once again eager to help raise funds for needy school children," said committee member Denise Rowlett of the Pacific County Sheriff's Office. "We have gained additional committee members in an effort to continue to expand what we can do for our community,"
The Law Enforcement "Guns" team once again bested the firemen, but the format will again return to a tournament style with hopes to see as many as three fire teams compete in the next event scheduled to take place March 11, 2017 at Koplitz Fieldhouse.
"We also wanted to thank South Bend School District and Coach Manuel Rangel for working with us for a second year to allow us to use this venue without costs," added McClain. "It has made it so we could bring more money to the schools we hoped to help."
Moving forward, the mission of Pacific County Guns and Hoses is transitioning from a student needs fund to a scholarship fund. If you are interested in learning more about this event, you should check out their Facebook page or email the committee at pacificgunsandhoses@gmail.com.
