Former police cadet arrested for child porn

A Tenino reserve officer who graduated from Winlock's 2013 police academy has been arrested for possession of child pornography following an investigation by the Washington State Patrol's Missing and Exploited Children's Task Force.

Michael C. Boone, 38, of Olympia, who also works as a community corrections officer for the Washington Department of Corrections, was arrested earlier today after detectives received a tip from Microsoft that explicit images of minors had been uploaded to Boone's SkyDrive account (a software similar to Google Cloud).

Microsoft personnel told investigators images uploaded to Boone's account had been flagged by their security system and were found to contain "the electronic signature of well-known and frequently-traded images of child pornography," according to a release from the task force, and a search warrant was obtained for Boone's home computer.

While executing the warrant today, detectives also contacted Boone at his place of employment, where he was interviewed then taken into custody. His work computer, as well as a smart phone issued to him by the Tenino Police Department, were also seized into evidence.

Boone is currently being held without bail in the Thurston County Jail as the investigation against him continues, while the Thurston County Prosecutor's Office will ultimately decide which charges, if any, to file against him.

Boone had graduated with distinction from Winlock's academy in June of 2013, having scored the highest during firearms training, and was one of four cadets to graduate under Tenino's sponsorship.
