Fishing vessel removed from beach near Grays Harbor

The U.S. Coast Guard, working closely with the Washington Department of Ecology, safely coordinated the refloating of the fishing vessel Adrianna, which went aground approximately one-half mile south of the entrance to Grays Harbor Friday.

At 12:50 p.m., the fishing vessel crew, using a rising tide, was able to utilize the fishing vessel’s engines to safely move the vessel from the shore to open water where a 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor met them.

Watchstanders at Sector Columbia River received a report over VHF marine radio channel 16 at 3:20 a.m., from the crew of the Adrianna stating that they had run aground on the sandy beach just south of the Grays Harbor South Jetty. It was also reported by the vessel master that a “crewmember fell asleep at the wheel.”

Coast Guard air and boat crews responded where an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew lowered a dewatering pump to the vessel and then landed on the nearby beach to assist in the pumps operation. The boat crew was unable to assist the 44-foot steel-hulled vessel due to the shallow water depth.  However, Station Grays Harbor personnel organized a beach team and reached the vessel by foot.

The vessel was carrying three crewmembers when is went aground, however, no injuries or pollution were reported from the incident.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
