The Toledo Park Board has presented a plan to the City Council during their Jan. 22 meeting to fence off and secure the wood shed behind the kitchen at Kemp Olson Park due to the theft of wood by campers and other individuals.
The wood, chopped and donated by members of the Toledo Lions Club, is meant for use in the fireplace and stove at the kitchen facility, but campers using the park have been seen backing up trucks and taking as much wood as they can without permission or payment. It has been proposed that a concrete foundation be poured and a metal fence be erected to keep out all but those who have reserved the kitchen, but council members said it did not seem clear who would unlock the fence when the time came for use of the wood.
It has also been proposed that the wood be paid for, but the park caretaker is not allowed to handle money on behalf of the city. This and other issues are expected to receive further discussion at upcoming City Council meetings.
