Emergency measures are being taken to inspect the progressing erosion of the shoreline near the North Jetty in Ocean Shores. Recent storms alone have shaved off up to fifteen feet of the hillside closest to a house on Ocean Shores Boulevard.
Fifty feet of the same hillside has eroded since October of 2015, making the house in question just 9 feet from the edge of the patio of the house.
The area in question is situated just south of the repairs that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers made earlier this winter.
The Ocean Shores city council made a motion to immediately seek the determination of whether or not the 9 feet of recent erosion should be dealt with. The city has decided to spend emergency funds to have the erosion evaluated, because aerial photos of the erosion show serious threat to some of the higher end properties that inhabit the area near the jetty.
The city is set on having an outside source come to evaluate the erosion, to determine whether the erosion is harming the infrastructure of the city, those on the city council are concerned that the erosion will interfere with the wastewater treatment facility
