Downtown Toledo adds family-owned café to list of eatery options

A local family has opened a restaurant they hope will fill the need for breakfast and lunch options in Downtown Toledo.

Java Café and Moore, located at the corner of Kellog Way and Ramsey Way, is owned and operated by husband and wife team Tom Moore and Dana Moore, of Silver Lake, who began the venture after spending too many commutes through Toledo without a place to grab coffee in the morning.

"We felt there was a need," said Tom Moore, who had worked as a truck driver until the café opened last Wednesday.

Dana Moore, who had herself been a veterinarian before starting the venture, said they chose Toledo because of its appeal as a small community, and said they look forward to getting to know its residents.

"We really want to be able to listen to the customers and what they want," she said, stating they will be looking for feedback regarding their menu and the services offered at the café.

So far, the focus is on sandwiches, pastries and coffee, among other items, with both cold and hot food options available. The Moores said they are seeking to serve the breakfast and lunch crowds at this time, stating they may expand their hours later on as they learn more about the community as well as running their own restaurant.

Aside from food, Java Café and Moore has artwork and crafts available for purchase from local artisans, such as Butterfly Wishes by Laura Hamilton, with space available for other artists, as well.

To see the options and accommodations available at Java Café and Moore, be sure to visit them during regular business hours Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The dining area of Java Café and Moore has been expanded by the business owners to combine what used to be two storefronts, to allow more open areas for customers to drop by and relax in.

Artwork and crafts are on display from Butterfly Wishes, owned by area resident Laura Hamilton. These items can be purchased by customers, while space remains available for additional artisans, as well.
