Winlock Drops First-Round Game

Winlock came up short in their first District IV Tournament game since 2008 in a 49-31 loss to Wahkiakum.

The Lady Cardinals fell behind to the tune of 27-7 at halftime and could never dig out of the hole. Freshman Rianna Whitehead led the Cardinals with 12 points while Dustee Alvord contributed nine points during a very successful third quarter for Winlock.

Castle Rock Wrestlers Dominate Sub Regional

Not surprisingly, Castle Rock dominated the 1A Sub Regional Wrestling Tournament held at Ilwaco Feb. 11. The Rockets scored 422 and were well ahead of Ilwaco, who totaled 258.5, followed by Kalama (231) and Woodland (206.5).

Castle Rock Champions included Jojo Saringan (113), Carson Horton (126) Kaleb Carroll (106), Shawn Godinho (145) and Austin Darvell (160).

Second place finishers included Kaleb Nelson (113), Alex Langdon (126), Nathan Carroll (132), Chase Lam (182) and AJ Lien (285).

Third Place finishers included Tyler Crayne (106), Boris Langdon (120), Hunter Whitten (152) and Talib Meeks (195).

Toledo had one champion in Dalton Yoder (220), while Logan Holbrook placed third at 132.

The top five wrestlers in each weight class advance to the 1A Regional Tournament on Saturday at Castle Rock.

Randall Places Third at Girls Sub Regional

Winlock Freshman Hannah Randall took third place at the girls sub-regional wrestling meet held in Ilwaco Feb. 120.

“I am going to go into regional’s with a good attitude and high hopes,” said Randall. “I am going to leave it all on the mat, give it my all and have fun.”

Taylor Miller of Castle Rock placed second in the 145 weight class. Both girls earned the right to advance to the Regional meet in Hoquiam on Saturday.
