Mineral man flees during burglary investigation

A Mineral man has been re-arrested after escaping from jail in the midst of a Winlock burglary investigation, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

Tim C. Saterdal, 47, had been identified as the suspect in a burglary taking place on the 400 block of SR 505 sometime between Oct. 30 and Nov. 7, and since the burglary had been arrested by the Roy Police Department on Nov. 10 on unrelated charges. (It was reported a Roy Police Officer had been responding to assist in a fire call at the time and, when Saterdal saw the officer approaching, assumed he was being pursued and began driving recklessly, leading to his arrest for reckless driving, obstruction and third-degree driving while license suspended.)

Lewis County Deputies contacted Saterdal on Nov. 23 at the Nisqually Correctional Facility to serve a warrant granting them a pair of boots stored among Saterdal's possessions and believed to have been involved in the burglary. During an interview with Saterdal, he confessed to owning a truck that had been discovered with one of two chainsaws stolen during the burglary.

After deputies completed their investigation and left the correctional facility, they received a call a few hours later from Thurston County Dispatch stating Saterdal had just escaped the jail and was seen climbing over the fence and fleeing into the nearby woods. He was located and arrested a few hours later, described as suffered severe lacerations from the fence, and reportedly said he escaped because he did not want to return to Lewis County.

He has since been referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor's Office for a second-degree burglary and second-degree theft.

Transient arrested for protection order violation

A local transient has been arrested after violating a protection order in Vader on Nov. 26, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

Patricia A. Carpenter, 50, was contacted at a residence on the 400 block of A St. after the victim, a 47-year-old female described as Carpenter's ex-roommate, called to report the suspect had entered her property unlawfully.

Responding deputies located Carpenter in a trailer on the property and booked her into the Lewis County Jail for violation of a protection order.

Longview man booked for causing I-5 wreck

A Longview man has been arrested after causing a collision near Castle Rock on Thursday, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Julio C. Marin Rangel, 47, was contacted around 5:12 p.m. on I-5 southbound near Milepost 54 after he allegedly drove his 1995 Honda Accord into the rear of a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 43-year-old Pasco man, causing the Nissan to leave the roadway and roll into the ditch, coming to rest on its roof.

Both vehicles were totaled while Marin Rangel and two passengers in the Nissan, a 45-year-old Cornelius, Ore., man and a 20-year-old Pasco man, were transported to St. Johns Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

Marin Rangel was later charged with DUI and reckless driving.

Toledo man booked for lying about collision

A Toledo man has been booked after attempting to report a wrecked vehicle stolen Friday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

Sean D. Leonard, 30, was contacted by deputies after they responded to a single-vehicle collision on the 300 block of Leonard Rd., in Onalaska, involving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee registered to the suspect.

The driver of the vehicle had left the scene when deputies arrived and, around an hour later, they were contacted by central dispatch and informed Leonard had just called 911 to report the vehicle was stolen.

After contacting Leonard, an investigation revealed he had been the driver of the wrecked vehicle and he was subsequently arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for making a false statement to a public servant.

It was also noted the Jeep suffered major damage while Leonard was reportedly uninjured.
