Winlock resident struck in Ethel-area collision
A Winlock resident was involved in a collision near Ethel Sunday, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The 62-year-old female had been driving a 2000 F350 eastbound on US Hwy. 12 when she slowed to make a left-hand turn and was struck on the right side by a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria driven by an 84-year-old Mossyrock man attempting to pass the F350.

Neither driver was reported injured, though two passengers in the Crown Victoria (a 34-year-old Mossyrock man and a 27-year-old Tacoma woman) were taken to Providence Centralia Hospital. A two-year-old Mossyrock girl in the Crown Victoria also escaped injury.

The driver of the Crown Victoria was cited for following too close to the F350.

Toledo man booked after threatening officers

A Toledo man was arrested after threatening the lives and safety of officers in Centralia Thursday, according to the Centralia Police Department.

Joseph W. Clift, 34, was contacted on the 500 block of N. Tower Ave. after patrons of a nearby bar indicated he was acting erratically. Clift, who was described as heavily intoxicated, was carrying a beer can and made comments indicating it may have been an explosive device. Officers interviewing Clift said he appeared to be experiencing severe mood swings, being cooperative one minute and combative the next.

After aggressively threatening the life of a K-9 unit and making assaultive movements toward officers, Clift was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for disorderly conduct. Neither Clift nor any officers were reportedly injured during the incident.
