Teen strikes elderly woman’s car near Winlock
No injuries were reported after a teen driver struck an elderly woman’s car near Winlock Saturday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

The 19-year-old female driver of a 1999 Ford Explorer, from Winlock, had been traveling westbound on Sargent Rd. and attempted to make a left turn at the intersection with N. Military Rd., east of Winlock. When pulling into the intersection, she struck a 2001 Lexus driven by a 77-year-old Winlock woman, causing minor damage to her own vehicle and major damage to the Lexus.

Neither driver nor their passengers (a 18-year-old male in the Ford and an 83-year-old male in the Lexus) reported any injuries and the driver of the Ford was mailed an infraction for failing to yield right-of-way.

Local pair referred for attempted metal theft
Two men have been referred for charges after the destruction of property on a logging road near Vader Friday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Shawn R. Lemes, 27 of Vader, and Dustin L Larkin, 8, of Shelton, were contacted be deputies after an individual with Sierra Pacific called to report a log bunk had been cut with a torch on the 1500 block of SR 506, west of Vader. A vehicle registered to one of the suspects had been found abandoned and inoperative near the scene of the crime and, though the suspects initially denied involvement, they later admitted to renting a torch with the intent of stealing metal from the logging site.

Both were referred for charges of trespassing, second degree, and malicious mischief, third degree. Estimated damage to the equipment is $500.

Young man sought in harassment of Winlock teens
Deputies are seeking information on a young man suspected of harassing a pair of teenagers on their bicycles near Winlock July 24, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

The alleged victims stated a man with blond hair and lots of freckles approached them in a lowered, white Honda on the 1200 block of Ferrier Rd., south of Winlock, and yelling at them, asking if they wanted to fight.

The boys attempted to leave the scene, but the suspect used his car to block them and continued to harass them, insisting they apologize for an unnamed infraction. No injuries were reported, but investigators are seeking any information that could help identify the suspect and noted he had a young, blond, female passenger with him.
