Winlock man severely injured lighting burn pile
A young Winlock man had to be flow to a Portland area hospital after being burned while trying to light a burn pile with gasoline June 17, according to Lewis County Fire District 15.

The man, described as in his 20s, had been injured around 3:30 p.m. on the 1500 block of King Rd. after the fuel he had poured on the debris rapidly caught fire, causing severe burns. After aid crews responded, he was taken to Winlock Miller Elementary School athletic field where a Lifeflight helicopter touched down and flew him to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

Officials caution that accelerants are dangerous to use when lighting a burn pile and point out that only locally-occurring vegetation may be burned, as well as enough paper to get the fire started.

Toledo teen hospitalized after bonfire bender
A Toledo teenager was hospitalized with alcohol poisoning after allegedly being provided drinks by his neighbor last week, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

The 16-year-old male had been at a neighbor’s house attending a bonfire in the early hours of June 18 when his parents were called to pick him up because he had become incoherent and combative. When they returned home to the 5400 block of Jackson Hwy. at around 3:45 a.m., deputies were called because the teen’s behavior continued to be violent and symptomatic of severe intoxication.

When deputies responded, the boy was being restrained by his father and eventually passed out before paramedics arrived. He was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital for acute alcohol poisoning and referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office for a charge of minor in possession of alcohol.

The 20-year-old male neighbor is also being referred for providing a premises for the consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Vandal knocks out truck windows in Toeldo
Authorities are seeking a vandal who may have caused more than $1,000 in damage to a local man’s pickup truck Friday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

The damage occurred to a Dodge Durango parked on the 5400 block of Jackson Hwy., north of Toledo, sometime between midnight and 12:30 a.m. Several windows were knocked out of the truck and the total estimated damage is $1,025.
