Winlock student booked for violent outburst

A Winlock student was arrested for destroying school property after a violent outburst at Winlock Middle School April 16, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

The student, a 15-year-old male, had allegedly attempted to spit at his teacher, but the teacher was already wearing a spit guard due to the student’s behavior in the past. After a second attempt at spitting, the student allegedly stood up and picked up his deck, causing the teacher to flee for her safety while the student threw the desk around the room an estimated 20 times.

Damage to the classroom was described as extensive and included the student’s desk and a dry erase board. The estimated loss of property was more than $700, while no injuries were reported.

The student was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for malicious mischief, second degree, and referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office for two counts of assault, fourth degree.

Six involved in DUI collision near Napavine

Local residents were among passengers injured in a DUI collision near Napavine Saturday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Cesar A. Hernandez-Martinez, 24, Centralia, has been referred after traveling the wrong way in the 3600 block of Jackson Hwy., east of Napavine, and striking a 1999 Ford Expedition being driven by a 29 year old Mossyrock Woman.

Four passengers had been in the Expedition, including a 10-year-old and 12-year-old from Mossyrock, and a 16-year-old and 52-year-old from Winlock. No major injuries were reported, though Hernandez-Martinez was reportedly taken to the hospital where he was contacted by deputies.

Hernandez-Martinez has been referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office for a charge of DUI pending the results of a toxicology test.

Crime Stoppers ‘Crime of the Week’

Authorities are seeking help investigating the theft of a snow mobile from the Ashford area last month.

Sometime between 2 and 3 p.m. on March 3, an unknown number of suspects stole a 2012 Artic Cat Snow Mobile from the trailer of a vehicle in the area of milepost 4-6 on Skate Creek Rd. North. The snow mobile was described as custom-built, orange and black in color, and is estimated to cost more than $22,000.
