Livestock perish in Winlock barn Fire

No individuals were injured, despite the loss of livestock, when a barn caught fire near Winlock Saturday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 8 p.m., a deputy passing through the 200 block of Tennessee Rd., north of Winlock, observed a barn fully involved in flames.

The deputy located to individuals standing nearby who explained they were caring for the property while the owner was on vacation when the barn caught fire.

The structure and everything inside was lost, including a number of chickens, as well as an RV damaged by the fire. Lewis County Fire District 15, who were assisted by Napavine, Toledo and Vader, said they have no reason to believe cause of the fire was suspicious.

The loss is estimated at around $100,000.

Toledo man booked for drugs, warrants

A Toledo man was booked April 8 for possession of narcotics following a traffic stop near Chehalis, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Alex A. Schon, 24, had been a passenger in a vehicle stopped on Prairie Rd., south of Chehalis, and was found to be in illegal possession of prescription opiates and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for the drugs, as well as three misdemeanor warrants.

Vader man booked for warrants, DUI

A Vader man with a history of DUIs was booked on several outstanding warrants after being pulled over April 9, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

David A. Mohar, 43, was contacted on the 400 block of 7th St., in Vader, and, when deputies ran his information, they discovered Mohar had six misdemeanor warrants out of Chehalis for failing to appear on charges including DUI, driving while license suspended, and driving without an ignition interlock device.

Mohar was booked into the Lewis County Jail on his warrants, as well as new charges of DUI, driving while license suspended, first degree, and driving without a required ignition interlock device.

Vehicle, equipment stolen near Winlock

An unknown number of suspects stole a vehicle and equipment from the Vader area Friday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

The victims, who said they were in the process of moving, stated someone had broken into their barn on the 1300 block of Winlock/Vader Rd. and stole a 2004 Yamaha ATV, a Stihl weed eater and a Stihl chainsaw, among other equipment. The estimated loss is around $2,800.

Crime Stoppers ‘Crime of the Week’

Authorities are seeking help solving a burglary taking place near Toledo back in February.

It is believed, between 9:30 p.m. Feb. 27 and 6 a.m. on Feb. 28, an unknown number of suspects broke into a work truck on the 100 block of Templeton Rd., east of Toledo, and stole welding leads, Bushnell binoculars, a Toshiba laptop, a Sterrett Construction laser level, a Craftsman lift top three-drawer tool box with mechanics tools, an Ignition interlock device and a GE generator. The estimated loss is more thaAn $13,200.
