Local Wrestlers Place at Mat Classic

Castle Rock placed five wrestlers while a Winlock senior took a third place medal home from the WIAA State Wrestling Championship in Tacoma.

Winlock’s Tony Raupp battled to a third-place finish in the 132 pound weight class. Castle Rock senior Chase Lam finished fourth in the 1A 182 pound class while Shawn Godinho took home fifth place at 145. Casron Horton grabbed seventh in the 126 pound category and Nathon Carroll earned eight place in the 1A 132 pound bracket. As a team,

Castle Rock finished 16th place at the 1A level.

CR Season Ends With Double OT Loss

The Castle Rock Boys basketball team ended their season in the District IV 1A Tournament with a thrilling double overtime 71-69 loss to Hoquiam.

The Rockets held a 12-point advantage at halftime, but the Grizzlies picked up pace and the hot hand of Rocket guard Brock Johnson cooled off some in the second half.  The Rocket bench nearly saved the day after Mason Kilingberg fouled out early in the fourth quarter and then Brock Johnson sank two free throws to keep the Rocket hopes alive as time expired. Johnson totaled 36 points in the game.

An earlier 53-38 loss to Woodland landed the Rockets into the loser-out consolation game against Hoquiam. Castle Rock ended their season with a 9-8 record (tied for fifth in the Trico League) and a 10-12 overall record.

Adna Ends Winlock Season

A slow start and a scoreless third quarter ended the Lady Cardinals basketball season as they fell to Adna 46-32 in the loser-out bracket of the District IV 2B basketball tournament.

Dustee Alvord provided a spark with 12 points and a number of rebounds but the Cardinals could not dig all the way out of the hole during the fourth quarter despite out scoring the Pirates 11-8 in the final frame.

This was Winlock’s first post-season appearance since 2008. They finished the year 4-2 in the 2B Central and 6 and 16 on the season.
