Winlock Farmer’s Market starts this week

Winlock’s 2014 Farmer’s Market will be starting this Wednesday and vendor space is still available.

Featuring produce from local growers, the Farmer’s Market, taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is also a place to find gardening tips as well as crafts such as candles and soaps, all make locally.

‘Annie’ showing at Fox Theater

Historic Fox Theatre Restorations is proud to announce the next film in their 2014 Movie Series, Annie, sponsored by Centralia Ballet Academy.

Showtimes on Saturday, April 19, are at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Fox Theatre in Historic Downtown Centralia, 123 South Tower Ave. As a special treat, Fred Beeks and Jeff Fox will be on hand to play the Fox Theatre organ before each screening.

The Musical Theatre Class at Centralia Ballet Academy will also have a live presentation before each show and there will be a membership drive for Ballet Theatre of Washington, a new nonprofit dance company based in Centralia. Admission for the movie is $8 per person, $7 for Members, and $20 per family (three to four persons).

Pre-sale tickets are available at Book ‘n’ Brush in Chehalis and Debbie’s Boutique, Holley’s Place, HUBBUB and Santa Lucia Coffee in Centralia. The Fox Theatre serves popcorn, while Holley’s Place Frozen Yogurt and The Fox Annex supply the rest of the best movie snacks.

Please be considerate of Volunteer Park

The caretakers of Winlock’s Volunteer Park would like to asThe caretakers of Winlock’s Volunteer Park would like to ask residents to be considerate of where their pets are relieving themselves, as the condition of the grass within the park is deteriorating.

Completed last year through volunteers and donations, Volunteer Park has been a free facility for residents and guests to enjoy, but dead spots on the grass are developing as well as large deposits of doggie waste unattended by owners. It has been advised that those with pets who need to do their business are encouraged to use the grassy area near the park on Front St. rather than the park itself, and to allow the sod to recover and re-grow in its dead spots.

Farm loans available for minorities, women, vets

The Chehalis office of the USDA’s Farm Service Agency has announced special loan funding set aside for minorities, women, military veterans and first-time farmers and ranchers.

Intended to help those with difficulty setting aside capital for farm-related investments, the loans are available both guaranteed and direct, with repayment terms ranging from 1 to 40 years.

Loans acquired through the program can be used for the purchase of real estate, livestock, equipment and, in some instances, to refinance debt, and options are available for those who do not fall into the aforementioned criteria.
