For Public Works the approval of the 2014 Chinook Maintenance and Operation contract with the Port of Chinook was quickly dispatched.
A bid for the mining permit along with planning services for the Milne Pit, not to exceed $28,000 was approved from G.O. Design and was followed by Resolution 2014-013, County Road Project No. 1635. The road project included a six-years transportation program through 2019.
In the area of Community Development, a promotion for Shawn Humphreys to Senior Environmental Health Specialist, effective April 1, came with a welcomed approval, as Humphreys will be in charge of the hazardous waste program. The annual youth litter crew is set to start with the approval of advertising for one 8-week crew with a crew lead. There was additional advertising approved to fill a full time Administrative Assistant for the Long Beach office and approval for recycling services by Waste Collection Management with Royal Heights Transfer Station and Pacific Solid Waste Disposal.
Vegetation management was approved for a $1,000 credit card to help cover on-line reservations and emergency situations, and Flannery Publications was awarded the printing of this year’s Pacific County Fair Exhibitors guide at a cost of just over $4,000.
The Commissioners accepted the resignation of Deputy Prosecutor Brent Bottoms effective April 30 of 2014, and approved the advertising to fill the vacant position.
General Business brought a proclamation declaring April 13-19 as Washington State University Master Gardner Volunteer week. The program that donates around 1,000 hours of volunteer hours to the county and is open to anyone in the county who is willing to pay back the community after entering the program, was noted to have increased interest as of late. The reasons steam from a couple different avenues like the economy and the passion by individuals for grown organic vegetables. There was also approval of a franchise extension for Falcon Community Ventures doing business as Charter Communications under Resolution 2014-014 and approval of a lease with the Pacific County Fire District No. 3.
One of the final items was the approval of the Community Room Users Agreement with Pacific County Fire District No. 1 to hold the first in another round of Pacific County Commissioner Forums, to be held in Ocean Park on May 13.
The next Pacific County Commissioners meeting will be held on April 22.
