Items in the Board of Health Consent Agenda consisted in part of accepting the minutes of the previous meeting and Rainbow Valley Landfill claim vouchers, a $4,4540.95 total.
During the commissioner's meeting, approval of Professional Services Agreement with Creative Community Solutions and consideration in the matter of adopting the distribution of the 2013 PUD Excise tax, where two of the items that will be re-visited in a following meeting.
Other agenda items in the category regarding the sheriff’s office came with little discussion and quick commission approval. Among those items, Resolution 2014-001, the transfer of money to allow the purchase of a apprehension canine; updated computer software due to manufacture's decision to halt support of existing software on the system; approval of an amendment to a Department of Corrections contract which houses DOC offenders; and approval of a vehicle that was scheduled to be replaced.
Prosecutor David Burke, who advised the commissioners to tread lightly with a contract from a Florida firm, questioned one item. The short discussion drew a cautious approval that would require language change in the contract of Sole Source Resolution 2014-012, a purchase of fingerprinting technology software used by the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office.
“We have worked with the company before, and it is something that we need to stay current with,” said Pat Matlock of the sheriff's office in support of the agenda item.
As the commissioners moved through the more than 30-point agenda, they approved the spending of at least $379,234 for services and equipment across six departments. Big-ticket items like a public works excavator threw $185,000 into the total, $70,000 for a soil compactor and $55,000 for a broom (Broce broom model #RC350) with and another $62,000 for two vehicles, contributed heavily to the over all total.
The commissioners acknowledged the retirement of Shop Supervisor, Craig Hawkins, after 25 years of service, and moved to post the vacant position. Two hires for public works were noted and approved to fill current vacant positions, Dylan McDougall, road maintenance, and Kelly Spoor, traffic control, both effective March, 12. There was also the approval of services of registered dietitian, Lynn Parker, for the Health and Human Services department. Office equipment was approved for lease and the Commissioners approved the moving of vehicles from department to department for better utilization of resources.
Notification of an extended summer season at Bruceport Park came during the vote to approve a maintenance contract. The season will be extended by two months, one at each end of opening and closing, in hopes to attract more day users and hunters.
Approval was easy for an update to neighboring Grays Harbor County and the Emergency Alert System Local Area Plan, an association that has been working for a few years as well as an issuance for a request for proposal providing consultant services in developing a Pacific County Emergency (Hazmat) Support function.
The extended and reordered agenda barley made a dent in the time spent in the meeting as the commissioners notified that they would be entering into executive session after only 35 minutes of county work.
The commissioners sequestered into discussion that was only related as, “a discussion about anticipated litigation,” nothing further was related.
