Can Local Business Please Get a Break!!

 Generally, most peoples idea of helping someone out whether it is for a sports team,
medical condition, club activity, or fundraising dinner is to go out
and do some fund raising. The fundraising burden usually falls mostly
upon donations from local business. There is rarely a day that goes by
when someone doesn't enter my business and ask for some kind of
donation for a silent auction, cash for their particular cause,
sponsorship for their walk, door prize for their dinner, cash for the
tournament, prize for their church activity, money for their add for
their program, etc.
I like most local business love to help out when someone is in need. I
have given thousands and thousands of dollars to help support this
community. I have given until it has become literally "crippling"
financially to my organization. I have gotten to the point where I
cannot simply afford to give a donation to everyone who walks into my
store; many of whom are very good customers of mine. It makes me feel
horrible when I have to choose who and who not to help or which cause
to support and which cause I literally HAVE to pass on.
My plea to the local community is to please try and take some of this
burden off of local business. Try to do some other fund raisers like
mowing lawns, get a party together and paint someone’s house, go
pick some berries and try and sell them. I not only think it would
take some burden off of local businesses, but also teach our children
some work ethic that so much of our youth truly need. It will teach
them to be dependent on themselves for their activities. It will
teach them something about life in the real world where you have to
work hard for everything you get.
