As the victim of a violent, felony assault and kidnapping, it was Mark McClain who treated me with respect, compassion, and professionally handled my case in the end. Before Mark came along, my case had been handled by another attorney, and then Burke stepped in - I have since learned that Dr. Burke cannot keep qualified attorneys. Dr. Burke was more interested in pleading the case down than fighting for justice for a crime victim. In fact, my case was handled well until Burke stepped in. I was told that Burke had not even read my statement before making this decision. Though when I asked Burke, he said he had. I was also told by an employee working for him, that once Burke gets involved, his interest is in the costs, NOT justice, resulting in plea bargains which are not in the interest of justice or victims. I experienced this! Even the judge, the Honorable Michael Sullivan, HIGHLY questioned the plea bargain, and originally denied it. Judge Sullivan saw the aggressive prosecution prior to Burke taking over. Crime victims deserve to have an attorney in the Prosecutor's Office who cares more about victims than the cost of a trial or the space in a jail. If this case had gone to trial, prosecution was not allowed to bring Stockholm Syndrome in, due to costs of an expert witness. I was not to have an expert medical witness unless by volunteer. It was Mark McClain who stood up for me at the restitution hearing - he argued FOR me. Victims do not have a voice at the Pacific County Prosecutors Office with Burke at the helm. I have seen the performance of both of these men and can assure you that it is Mark McClain who will truly serve the community and those who are the victims of violent crimes. BARBARA HOLLAND
