This was the first week of students going back to school. Superintendents, principals, parents and kids were all happy to be back in the classroom again.
Superintendents from Napavine, Winlock and Toledo shared their thoughts.
Shane Schutz, Superintendent for Napavine stated, "We had a great first week of school. Staff and students were very excited to be back for in person instruction."
Garry Camereon, Superintendent for Winlock stated, "Winlock is excited! Things are going really well."
Chris Rust, Toledo Superintendent stated, "We are projecting an increase in enrollment that will be close to 800 students this year. This is an increase of about 20 students over last year. The remodeled Toledo High School is new. Most of the classrooms were completed last year. Interior spaces are expected to be finished by the end of October."
Winlock and Toledo principals continued with the excitement, Martin Huffman from Toledo High School stated, "Toledo High is Proud to be back full time in person. When I say River, you say Hawks!"
Dracy McCoy, Winlock High and Middle School Principal continued with the excitement, "The administration and staff at Winlock Middle and High School are excited to have students back on campus for the 2021-22 school year. We look forward to a year filled with opportunities and support for all students. Welcome back CARDS!"
It didn't stop there though, even a few parents were happy for schools to restart. Elizabeth Horvath stated, "It's hard to see them leave for the first day, but it's great to know that he's in good hands, enjoying himself."
"It's great, I get to go to the cafeteria and get food without a teacher telling me what to do and they have great cheese quesadillas," according to Elizabeth's son Noah.
Samantha Lovelady has 7 children, she stated, "We are so happy to have our kids back in school this week. As a larger family, seven going on eight in a few days, COVID shutdowns were especially hard mentally and academically. Our four school age daughters were ecstatic to be starting this year off in person with all their friends and are looking forward to a successful 2021/22 school year."
Alora, Samatha's daughter is excited, "I made two new friends already. I really like my teacher."
Napavine High School students also chimed in, "COVID has definitely been impactful," said Napavine student Raine Gaskill "mask-wearing is completely mandated again and a lot of people are arguing whether or not this is the right thing to do."
Patrica Helsing said, "I feel really good and excited to see what's ahead!" About going back to school this year she also said, "one challenge has definitely been with math. I had to retake it this year for my last credit so it's got me nervous."
