This Thursday, November 11 is Veterans Day, but it was known as Armistice Day in the past. Armistice Day was a day the allies in World War II signed the Armistice agreement. Armistice is an agreement made by opposing sides in a war to stop fighting for a certain time, also known as a truce.

During World War I on November 11, 1918 at 5:45 a.m., an armistice was signed between the allied forces and Germany. This agreement was to go into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. It was initially called for a 36-day ceasefire which was extended several times until the peace treaty was signed called the "Treaty of Versailles." The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919.

On Friday, November 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., Lowes Distribution Center in Winlock had their Grand Opening. The event started with speeches from the management at Lowes followed by pictures with various groups. After the pictures, there was a small buffet catered by The Rowdy Rooster.

Lowe's recently hired their warehouse staff, they stated they hired 86 employees and they are now full to capacity. The facility has approximately 1.2 million square feet, and will be servicing 30 Lowe's stores with a capacity of 66 by the end of 2022.

Domestic violence is that ugly head that rears itself much too often. Domestic Violence Awareness Month concluded in October, but domestic violence awareness should be every day.

Julie Jewell is the executive director of Crisis Support Network (CSN). Jewell has been with CSN for approximately 2½ years. Prior to that, she worked for almost 25 years in child welfare, working for DSHS and DCYF. She has a Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Sciences. Jewell also has a background in mental health and counseling psychology in addition to her work in child welfare. She is a graduate of Willapa Valley HS.

Jewell was kind enough to offer her time to answer several questions by the Herald on educating people about the awareness of domestic violence, and hopefully, helping prevent it. Girl Scout Troop 41175 would like to thank the Raymond community for donating 741 items and $380 to our October COVID-Relief Food Drive for the North Pacific County Food Bank. Special thanks to local partnerships that made this a success: the Raymond School District for their student outreach and collection sites, Thriftway for allowing us to collect out front, Raymond Elks #1292 who donated over 200 lbs of food, and the Willapa Harbor Herald for helping spread the word. Wow and way to go Raymond community! The NPC Food Bank is open for donations every Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is located at 1855 Park Ave. in Raymond. Items they always need are hamburger helper/skillet-in-a-box meals, tomato soup, cream of mushroom soup, canned milk, tinned meats and fish, and baby food.
