Inslee releases statement on high vaccine rates among state workforce

Gov. Jay Inslee released a statement Monday regarding the latest increases in vaccination rates among state employees ahead of the required Oct. 18 vaccine verification deadline. Below is the governor's statement.

"We all can be extremely encouraged with the progress we have made in vaccinating public servants in response to this pandemic. As today's numbers released by the Office of Financial Management show, tens of thousands more public servants residing in communities across our state are now vaccinated, putting themselves and the people they interact with at much lower risk from this virus. The first numbers gathered showed around 49 percent, now we are over 90 percent. The numbers show this strategy to increase vaccinations has been a great success.

Winlock received some very sad news last week, Terry Williams, the Chief of Police and officer in Winlock for 36 years, passed away. The community lost someone who looked after the city and the people in it for many years, a loss that will be felt for years to come.

Sam Patrick moves up the ranks

Toledo recently lost their chief of police and they added a chief of police who is familiar with Toledo and the citizens. Sam Patrick is the new Chief of Police in Toledo and he is excited to be in his new role.

Chief Patrick has extensive training and is part of many programs in Toledo. He stated, "I have worked for the Toledo police department since July 1, 2010 under Chief John Brockmueller."

Alli Engel crowned Swiss Miss during 51st Oktoberfest

Alli Engel was crowned Lewis Pacific Swiss Society Swiss Miss during the 51st Oktoberfest, on October 2 at the Swiss Park in Frances.

Alli is a senior at PeEll High School and also participates in the running start program through Centralia College. Alli, an honor student, also plays volleyball and fastpitch. When not busy at school, Alli is a longtime member of 4-H, where she has shown pigs and entered baking contests.

Theft, forgery trial scheduled for this week

SOUTH BEND - The trial of Kathryn M. Burr was finally scheduled to start this week running Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Pacific County Superior Court. Burr, 50, the former executive director of the Crisis Support Network (CSN), is charged with one count of Theft in the First Degree with Aggravating Factor; 12 counts of Obtaining Signature by Deception with Aggravating factor and 12 counts of Forgery with Aggravating Factors. Senior Deputy Prosector Joseph Faurholt is the lead attorney for the prosecution. Scott Campbell of Montesano is representing the defense.
