Gov. Jay Inslee Friday announced updated guidance for agritourism and the agricultural industry as part of Washington's Safe Start reopening plan. The guidance for Agritourism has been updated to allow for additional activities, including animal viewing, hay/wagon/train rides, children's play equipment/games, and private firepit/bonfires.

COVID-19 Moderately Steady

As of Sunday, mid-afternoon, there were another 441 coronavirus cases confirmed in Washington, bringing the total number of diagnoses to 74,320, including 1,905 deaths, according to the state Department of Health.

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) claimants have to answer more questions each week in a procedural change.

During the weekly claim procedure, the Employment Security Department (ESD) asks each claimant a series of questions designed to determine the claimant's qualifications for benefits. People qualifying for PUA will see new questions each week.

Back the Blue is an American activism campaign focused on building community support for our local police officers. The idea is to support your local first responders, not to defund them but to defend them. There is such a movement starting right here in Lewis County.

The Lewis County Fire Departments in South Lewis County are looking for volunteers to help with their responsibilities. The responsibility of a volunteer firefighter is many, but the comradery with the other members will far outweigh the hard work.

The local fire departments start with the application process, they have an entire packet if you are interested.

On Tuesday, August 25, a garbage truck somehow drove into a gate in the fish camp area of Williams Park and broke open its fuel tank. The diesel spill was close to the Nemah river and caused the Pacific County Emergency Management Agency and the local fire departments to take action.

"There was a gate on the side of the road and the garbage truck ruptured their fuel tank on the side of the gate," said PCEMA Director Scott McDougall. "We had an 18 gallon fuel spill onto the ground right next to the Nemah River."

SOUTH BEND - Now that the Pacific County 2020 Primary Election is complete, there were some key results in many races that will be hotly contested in the General Election November 3, when the top two primary vote-getters square off in several important state and county elections.

Of 15,580 registered voters, a total of 9,611 ballots were cast in Pacific County. The voter turnout was 61.69 percent, which is much higher than the state turnout of 54.44.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is that statewide, incumbent Democrat Brian Blake with 46.61 percent of the vote, finished second to Joel McEntire (53.24), a republican, In Pacific County, Blake corralled 52.63 percent compared to 47 percent for McEntire in the Legislative Dist. 19 State Representative Pos. 2 battle.
